Summary of Job Duties

The Department of World Languages at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chinese, to begin August 2018. The Assistant Professor will teach classes in Chinese language and linguistics. This position will support and participate actively programs in Chinese and in the Department of World Languages, including some service activities, curricular, and co-curricular development.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications: Please ensure that all relevant application materials include details addressing the minimum qualifications. Applicants not meeting the minimum qualifications will be disqualified from consideration.
  • Ph.D. in Chinese language or linguistics or closely related discipline conferred by the start of employment
  • Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and fluency in English
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the Chinese Pinyin System
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching
  • Evidence of an active research agenda
  • Evidence of interpersonal skills and collegiality necessary to help maintain a strong Chinese program
  • Evidence of ability to teach Chinese at all undergraduate levels
